CGX just bought a lot of Nexpresses.

12 11 2008

Of course, none of them are coming to our shop… whatever. Our Indigo 5500 is awesome.

CGX is big into photo replication and all sorts of photo-on-paper applications.  I don’t know if I can divulge the name of our clients, but they are sort of a big deal.

The Nexpress can print on all sorts of substrates and can print over 2 million shts/month so it’s a good match both on quality and sheer volume.

You can read more about it here.

Peter Krusa

21 08 2008

Peter B. Krusa, a printing industry icon, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in Winston-Salem, NC.

Peter Krusa

Peter Krusa

“Peter spent his entire career in the printing industry spending the majority of his time with PBM Graphics, Inc. where he helped build and mold the company from the early years to his retirement. Many of PBM’s milestones in growth, expansion, prestige and respect as a premier printing company were because of Peter’s vision, drive and leadership. Peter was extremely involved and active in the Printing Industries of the Carolinas, serving as a Trustee for the past 16 years and currently was President of the PICA Foundation. He was a respected leader and innovator in the printing industry.

In 2005, Peter joined the faculty at Appalachian State University as a Distinguished Professor in the Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology program. Peter was to be inducted into The Ben Franklin Society of PIA/GATF in November which recognizes and honors industry leaders who have made lasting contributions to the printing and graphic communications industries.”

Many people here at Wentworth personally knew Peter. He will be missed dearly by his students and fellow printers.

CGX acquires PBM

18 03 2008

PBM Graphics is now part of CGX’s network of companies. Located in Durham, NC they are a major power player in this industry. One of their claims to fame… POKEMON cards!

(I never really got into that craze.. maybe because I was never an eleven year old boy?) Nevertheless, it’s a huge market, and they produce countless other trading cards brands. PBM is ridiculously huge. They drive around in golf carts..  maybe I could convince AG we need segways?

PICA 2008

21 01 2008

Wentworth won TWO sponsored awards at the 2007 PICA banquet!

The Palmetto GBA “Focused 2006″ Annual Report won the Pitman Award for “Best Annual Report” and The Alison Group’s Brigadoon hard-bound book won the PICA Chairman’s Award for “Most Challenging and Rewarding Entry”. Both the awards and the winning entries are on display in the lobby. Additionally we were had four Best of Category wins: “Our Favorite Job of the Year”, “Books – Hard Cover”, “Announcements and Invitations (4 or more colors)”, and “Annual Reports (4 or more colors)”.

These are very prestigious awards, and it further proves that Wentworth is literally one of the best printers in the Carolinas!

For all you printing nerds…

We just wish we came up with this ourselves!

CGX acquires Cyril-Scott

28 12 2007

Cyril-Scott is a web shop in Lancaster, OH. They have 19 (!!) web presses and in-line finishing. They have engineers who develop custom finishing units to fit on the end of the presses. As you can imagine, its an intense operation.

Web presses scare me. I think its the idea of getting a really large paper cut.

Want more info? Read the press release here or visit The Cyril-Scott website.
